IEC 61010 Overview - Standard for Safety Requirements for Electrical Equipment

The IEC 61010 standard is also a UL and ANSI Standard as well in the US. IEC 61010 is the electrical requirements for laboratory test and measurement equipment. The equipment and machines used to measure, control and for use in labs within your facility or in your client’s facility, control of process output variables, temperature controllers, pH controllers.things of that nature. It also includes other laboratory equipment for example. microscopes, metrology equipment, FTIRs, Mass Spectrometers, or other devices in a laboratory.

IEC 61010 covers the electrical requirements and some of the other hazards for these types of equipment. This is important to you because in some cases when you supply your equipment specifically within the US and Canada, you are required to show suitability of use of your equipment for installation. When you send your equipment to your end customer, sometimes you’ll be asked for an electrical evaluation by a third party or a field labeling of your equipment before it is installed. Shipping your equipment to these types of jurisdictions.these types of customers in those areas, goes much easier if you are already designed and approved to IEC 61010. This makes it very easy to sell your equipment into those jurisdictions. Additionally, if you need to sell your equipment to Europe or globally.already being approved to an international standard makes your final acceptance easier and you can get a CE mark and other things done much more rapidly.

Depending on your equipment type this may be the electrical Standard for your equipment to prove conformance to SEMI S2 in addition to IEC 60204-33 IEC 60204-33:2009 applies to electrical and electronic equipment associated with semiconductor fabrication equipment for the manufacture, measurement, assembly, and test of semiconductors. It is applicable to the electrical equipment or parts of the electrical equipment that operate with nominal supply voltages not exceeding 1 000 V for alternating current (a.c.) and not exceeding 1 500 V for direct current (d.c.), and with nominal supply frequencies not exceeding 200 Hz. For higher voltages or frequencies, special requirements IEC 60204 applies to electrical and electronic equipment associated with semiconductor fabrication equipment for the manufacture, measurement, assembly, and test of semiconductors.
