Technological Innovation

What is the difference between ISO 15118 2 and ISO 15118 20 ?

ISO 15118-20 is an extension of the original ISO 15118 standard, which aims to define a communication protocol for electric vehicles (EVs) to connect to charging infrastructure. This new version of ISO 15118-20 introduces advanced features such as Plug & Charge, wireless communication, and improved security mechanisms.

ISO 15118-20 also specifies the physical and data link layer requirements for implementing the ISO 15118-2 standard. This part of the standard focuses on the technical details related to the communication protocols, connectors, and physical interfaces needed to establish a reliable and efficient communication link between the EV and the charging station.

ISO 15118-20 defines the Wireless Power Transfer (WPT) communication, which allows for wireless charging, and specifies the use of Power Line Communication (PLC) technology for wired communication.

In summary, ISO 15118-20 is an essential standard for EV charging infrastructure, as it defines the technical requirements for implementing the ISO 15118-2 standard. It ensures that the communication protocols and interfaces are interoperable and compatible across different manufacturers and charging stations, facilitating widespread adoption and integration of electric vehicles into our transportation system..
